1.8 and the Future

With 1.8 just around the corner it is time to think about the future. After a successful visualization project demeter is now safely running inside another machine with much better physical hardware. Because it does not take up any physical space anymore there is no real reason to shut it down. So as I had said many times in the past, we are going to keep demeter running for as long as possible in to the future. You will always be welcome on the server and any creations that you have claimed will never be regenerated.

Virtualized! (and DNS updates)

Well, a slight critical hard drive failure has sufficiently motivated me to finish my visualization project. ta-da: demeter is now running on a virtualized machine allowing it to be much more dynamic and robust. Unfortunately due to a bug in the version of the server we were running all the changes made in the last few months to homebase (or any constantly loaded chunk) were not saved. I will be working to re create these changes as well as take a page out of jdkomo's book and have the server reboot each night to allow for all the chunks to be saved and backed up. I have also removed the teamspeak server from demeter and it is now running on a new server called Hermes, all of the old DNS records have been updated to point to the new server location as well.

Lastly demetermine.com can now be used as the server location once more (as well as server.demetermine.com). The website can also still be found at demetermine.com via a web browser

New Player Welcoming Changes

After learning more about NBT tags and how items spawn in Minecraft I have created a new center for welcoming new players. Any player that has not yet visited the new center can press the button and get guided through a short path and be given the equipment they need to begin their adventure through Demeter. Two maps, of Homebase and of the world shop, a set of custom leather armor, a wooden sword, and a Player's Guide that contains the list of commands that can be used within Demeter. It is a very interesting experience so I would encourage any player, old or new, to venture through it. You can find it by following the signs from the center of Homebase.

Runnint 1.7.9

All up to date with the newest bukkit beta build. Thanks to jdkomo for getting me on a new minecraft binge. At some point in the near or far future Demeter will be moved onto a virtual machine on a more powerful computer. Not sure when it all depends on when I get around to actually learning how to visualize things! Happy crafting.

Running 1.7.2

Hey guys, work is hard and I had started to play some other games, though I always find myself coming back to this game every few updates or so. With some minimal testing I have gotten the server updated to 1.7.2! Just like always it is open to anyone to play on for as long as they like. Any suggestions of what should be added to the server can be posted on this here blog.

Bukkit 1.7.2 Dev build released

The dev build is out, however I will not be upgrading the server right away as a lot has changed in the build and there is quite a bit to test. We will continue to be on 1.6.4 for the time being. Somewhere down the line I might have a demo world for new Bukkit versions but that is not a very high priority on the list of things to do.

Near future of demeter

Hey Crafters,
This is a post about how donations will work in the near future. In the past you were able to donate money to the server and receive in game money as a result. I am now changing the rules so that you can no longer break blocks in the world unless you donate a dollar to the world. We will also be limiting the ability to craft certain items and mine specific blocks unless you donate every other month. These blocks include but are not limited to iron, gold, and diamond ores. Claiming land will also change, for every dollar you donate you will be allowed to claim up to two plots of land. If you donate $10 you will be given an unlimited amount of whatever block you want as well as the ability to fly. for $20 you can enter creative mode and fly around. If you donate $50 you will be able to teleport around the map as you see fit and ignore the limitations of other player's plots, allowing you to build and destroy block in them. For $100 you will get all the powers that the admin has, including the ability to ban other players and user world edit to mass create and remove blocks.
I truly do hope that this make the game a better experience for all of the player who join our loving server.

Ok, but for real.

Donations are stupid and I never liked them, the game should not be pay to win. Ever. It just makes the game not fun. But I really like the idea of having a fair way to sponsor the game if you want to catch up with friends or spontaneously build a mega structure that is not part of a scheduled group build. Donations are here to stay in the same form that they were in the past: You will get 1000 chips, in game money, per dollar per dollar up to 10 dollars. Yah that sounds a bit confusing so let me explain it a little more.
$1 = 1000 Chips (1000 chips per dollar)
$2 = 4000 Chips (2000 chips per dollar)
$3 = 9000 Chips (3000 chips per dollar)
$10 = 100000 Chips (10000 chips max per dollar)
$11 = 110000 Chips (10000 chips max per dollar)

However there will be one big key difference in how the donations work. Instead of going to me to fund the server, now that I am fully capable of funding it on my own:
all the donations will go directly to the EFF
Because honestly, they will do a hell of a lot more good with the money then I would plus they are my favorite nonprofit. You will see this change appear on the website as soon as I figure out the best way to streamline the donation process.
